Goals Galore in Tassie thriller at D’Arcy Street
Lions FC flipped the script from their Round 1 encounter with South Hobart as they took the win at the South Hobart Oval with a 4-2 result after last-minute hopes by South Hobart!
It was South Hobart who controlled the opening stages against Lions FC at D’Arcy Street, until Liam Ponting came to the fore. Ponting set the tone for what was to come for Lions FC when he scored the lead in the 30th minute and his first of the Championship. The Lions went into Half Time ahead.
Action resumed quickly after the break when Godfrey Debele followed suit and scored his first goal of the Championship to put the Lions FC squad ahead by two in the 53rd minute. The third came for the Lions in the 76th minute after Alex Feitchner, who made his return to the field after being out all season with an injury, took advantage of the South Hobart open goal and sent one into the bottom of the net, with South Hobart keeper Kieran Brown running after in a desperate attempt to save.
Just four minutes later, an assist from Alex Feitchner, led to an incredible goal hitting the back of the net from Rahmat Akbari. The play stayed at 4-0 into the 90th minute and it was assumed that would be the end of the action. South Hobart’s Oliver Beltran-Woodward swiftly ended that thinking as he sent one through the hands of the Lions FC keeper to the top of the net.
Play didn’t stop there as Kobe Kemp scored the second goal of the night for South Hobart in the 92nd minute to bring them back to 4-2, keeping hopes alive for the side.
The action concluded in the 93rd with Lions FC well and truly flipping the script from their first encounter with South Hobart in Round 1, where it ended 2-1 in favour of South Hobart.
Lions FC leave the match at the top of the group and will go to face Preston Lions away on the 13th November. South Hobart will be hoping for better luck as they host the Wollongong Wolves on the 14th November.
