Sydney Olympic have an opportunity to turn the tables on Oakleigh Cannons when the two sides meet again on Thursday night, with the competition's leading goalscorer Michael Ruhs looking to continue his impressive form.

The visitors claimed a 4-2 victory in their opening-round encounter, but the hosts will have confidence after a thrilling 3-2 win over Marconi Stallions last weekend. Ruhs scored twice inside the opening 22 minutes, taking his tally to four goals for the competition.

The Victorian side have proven difficult to beat, most recently holding Group C leaders Bayswater City to a goalless draw before claiming the bonus point on penalties. Goalkeeper Lachlan Charles was again influential, producing an important save in the shootout.

Just three points separate the two sides heading into Thursday's clash, with the hosts looking to close the gap on the top two and the visitors aiming to strengthen their position in Group C.

A Croatian derby takes centre stage in the nation's capital on Friday night as Canberra Croatia welcome Sydney United 58 to Deakin Stadium, with both sides chasing important points in Group A.

The hosts are still searching for their first win of the competition, but their opening-round encounter showed they can match their Group A opponents. That contest finished 1-1 before the visitors edged the penalty shootout, setting up an interesting rematch.

The Sydney side head into Friday's fixture following a dramatic 2-1 victory over Sutherland Sharks. After conceding a spectacular equaliser, substitute Ali El-Sabeh delivered a winner in the 94th minute to secure all three points.

With the group stage moving into its second half, the hosts will be determined to make home advantage count, Friday's encounter promises to be an interesting contest between the two rival clubs.

Marconi Stallions v Bayswater City

Marconi Stallions have a chance to settle the score with Bayswater City when the Group C leaders travel to Marconi Stadium on Saturday afternoon, with the visitors having an opportunity to secure their place in the quarter finals.

The Western Australian side made an immediate impression in the opening round, defeating last year's Australian Championship runners-up 3-1 on home soil. Since then, they've continued to lead the group, although a goalless draw against Oakleigh Cannons last weekend saw them miss out on the bonus point.

The hosts will be eager to produce a different result on home soil after a frustrating 3-2 defeat to Sydney Olympic in Round 3. Despite falling two goals behind early, they fought back into the contest, with substitute Stephan De Robillard finding the net shortly after coming on.

A victory would take the visitors to 10 points and guarantee their progression to the knockout stage, while the hosts are still searching for their first win of the competition.

Wests APIA v Broadmeadow Magic

Just one point separates Group B's top two sides heading into Saturday's clash at Lambert Park, with Wests APIA looking to end Broadmeadow Magic's unbeaten start to the competition.

Wests APIA head into Saturday's clash following an impressive 5-2 victory over Avondale FC at Lambert Park, producing a remarkable second-half comeback after trailing 2-1 at the break. Seiya Kambayashi's spectacular volley sparked the turnaround, with four unanswered goals completing a memorable afternoon as national league football returned to the venue for the first time since 1991.

The visitors have been equally impressive, making it three matches without defeat after edging Adelaide City 3-2 last weekend. Goals from Ezra Palombini, Luis Lara Delgado and Bailey Wells helped establish a commanding lead before a late fightback made for a tense finish.

The two sides couldn't be separated in Round 1, with the Newcastle side eventually claiming the bonus point following a goalless draw. This time, a win for either team would guarantee a quarter-final place, adding even more importance to Saturday's rematch.

Wollongong Wolves v Preston Lions

Venue: Macedonia Park

Just one point separates Wollongong Wolves and Preston Lions heading into Saturday evening's clash at Macedonia Park, with both sides looking to improve their position in Group D.

The hosts had gone through their opening two matches without conceding in regulation time, but that run came to an end against Lions FC last weekend. Despite taking the lead through Lachie Scott, they conceded three second-half goals in a 3-1 defeat.

The visitors arrive with renewed confidence after securing a 2-1 victory over South Hobart last weekend. Nahuel Bonada struck inside four minutes before Lleyton Brooks doubled their advantage, helping secure a 2-1 victory.

There was nothing between these teams when they met in Round 1, with the New South Wales side eventually claiming the bonus point following a goalless draw. A win for the visitors would see them move ahead of their opponents in the standings, while the hosts will be looking to respond to last weekend's defeat.

South Melbourne v Sutherland Sharks

Date: Saturday 7 November
Kick-off: 7:30 pm (AEDT)
Venue: Lakeside Stadium

Defending Australian Championship winners South Melbourne have an opportunity to secure their place in the quarter finals this weekend when Sutherland Sharks visit Lakeside Stadium on Saturday night.

The hosts remain unbeaten through three rounds and arrive following a 2-0 victory over Canberra Croatia. Jordan Swibel continued his impressive start to the competition with the opening goal, while Thomas Giannakopoulos added a second to secure the three points.

The visitors have shown they can compete with Group A's leading sides but will be determined to respond after a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat to Sydney United 58. Alen Harbas produced one of the goals of Round 3 with a stunning long-range free-kick, only for his side to concede a winner deep into stoppage time.

The defending champions claimed a narrow 1-0 victory when these teams met in Round 1. Another win would take them to 11 points and guarantee progression to the knock stage, while the visitors will be determined to produce a different result this time around.

Avondale FC v Adelaide City

Avondale FC and Adelaide City will both be eager to put their Round 3 defeats behind them when they meet at Avenger Park on Sunday afternoon.

The hosts looked on course for an important victory against Wests APIA after taking a 2-1 lead into half-time, with Keitatsu Kojima and Niyah Joseph finding the net. However, a difficult second half saw them concede four unanswered goals in a 5-2 defeat.

The visitors also experienced a frustrating afternoon, falling 3-2 to Broadmeadow Magic despite a spirited late comeback. Goals from Francesco Schimizzi and Bailey O'Neil gave the South Australian side hope after trailing 3-0, but they ran out of time to complete the turnaround.

Their opening-round encounter produced an entertaining 2-2 draw before the Victorian side claimed the bonus point in penalties. Both teams are still searching for their first win, making Sunday's rematch an important opportunity to turn their recent performances around.

South Hobart v Lions FC

Lions FC head to Tasmania on Sunday afternoon looking to continue their impressive run of results, but South Hobart have already shown they know how to beat the Queensland side.

The hosts claimed a 2-1 away victory when the teams met in Round 1, although the visitors have responded with consecutive wins to establish themselves among Group D's leading contenders.

The Queensland side produced one of the standout comebacks of Round 3, overturning a one-goal deficit to defeat Wollongong Wolves 3-1. Austin Ludwik brought his side level before Harvey Pope and Mitchell Hore completed an impressive second-half turnaround.

Meanwhile, the Tasmanian side will be determined to make the most of home advantage after suffering a narrow 2-1 defeat to Preston Lions last weekend. Jacob Lancaster's second-half header brought the hosts back into contention, but they couldn't find the equaliser.

Just three points separate first and fourth in Group D, leaving the standings finely balanced. A win for the hosts would bring them level on points with the current leaders, while the visitors will be looking to extend their winning run.
